Rutgers Odds & Ends

After Rutgers played Penn State at Giants Stadium on September 2, 1977, WRSU-FM launched the first “Knightline” football wrap-up and call-in show where fans could talk sports and discuss the Scarlet Knights season on a game by game basis.  Knightline actually began with the 1975-76 undefeated season by the Rutgers basketball team.  It preceded sports call-in shows like WFAN in New York by over a dozen years and its homophonic namesake on ABC-TV by almost five years.  The opening and closing theme song in use in 2018 has never changed in the 43 years the program has aired.  The Knightline theme song is “Doctor Music” by The Peppers from 1975 and chosen by Mike Blishak, Class of 1978.
